Job Description

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To respond to People We Support (PWS) needs giving reassurance and support as necessary.

2. To assist PWS with personal care needs in retiring and rising as required. To monitor PWS throughout the night in accordance with the individual assessed needs, support plan, risk assessments or instructions from the Manager.

3. To assist with household tasks such as washing, ironing, etc as directed by the Manager.

4. To be aware of the PWS' health and medical needs and report to a senior member of staff should there be any change in a resident's condition.

5. To establish good relationships with PWS' relatives, friends, volunteers and advocates.

6. To work closely and in an appropriately professional manner with other professionals, both within and outside the organisation, eg doctors, Day Services, social workers, etc.

7. To keep written reports as required by the Manager.

8. To carry out administration of drugs (after appropriate training).

9. To empower the PWS and promote their choices and independence as much as possible.

10. To work within the framework of Norwood's policies and procedures in line with the legislation.

Who Norwood Supports
 

Experience

Essential

Willingness to undertake the Skills for Care Induction.

Willingness to work towards QCF Level 2.

Desirable

Completion of the Skills for Care Induction.

QCF Level 2 or NVQ 2.

First Aid.

 

Qualifications

Essential

Work in a care setting with in paid or voluntary capacity.

Desirable

Work with Adults with Learning Disabilities in a community or similar setting.

 

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Understanding of Learning Disabilities.

Strong Literacy and Numeracy skills.

Commitment to an inclusive approach to service planning and delivery .

Understanding and ability to support people with a range of communication and behavioural needs.

Ability to work as part of a team and as a lone worker.

Ability to work independently and creatively using own initiative .

Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders .

Desirable

Person Centred Planning.

Training in Systematic Instruction.

Understanding and awareness of the Jewish culture.
