Job Description

Monitor and review the progress of hydrotherapy sessions for groups and individuals including undertaking initial assessments and the production and distribution of individual achievement reports for the people we support, and any other reporting as and when required.

Assist people we support with; choice and the putting on of buoyancy aids; support people to enter and exit water; support people in and around the pool area; ensure safe manual handling of people we support and the use of hoist as and when appropriate; liaise with Norwood staff and external organisations with regard to hydrotherapy service and assist with managing the timetable.

Assist in promoting Norwood's hydrotherapy service to the wider community.

Maintain health and safety standards ensuring that all people we support and support staff adhere to

the safety guidelines in place and to lifeguard agreed sessions, in line with the Norwood's Hydrotherapy Safe Operating Procedures.

Implement all policies required for the operations of the Hydrotherapy service including Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Manual Handling, Equal Opportunities, COSHH. Contribute to and maintain risk assessments for the hydrotherapy pool.

Assist with the safe operation of the water purification plant, the maintenance of the quality of the water, safe chemical levels and water checks.

Undertake necessary training for accreditation of skills and qualifications.

General

To maintain standard of dress that is appropriate to role and in accordance with the organisation's dress policy.

To maintain confidentiality at all times and to ensure respect for, proper observance of and adherence to Norwood's confidentiality policy for all staff.

To attend regular supervision sessions with line manager, regular team meetings and undertake relevant training as and when required.

To take all reasonable care of the health and safety of her/himself and of other persons who may be affected by her/his acts or omissions. As regards to any duty or requirement imposed upon the organisation by or under any of the relevant statutory provisions, to co-operate with the organisation as far as it necessary to enable that duty or requirement to be performed or complied with. To report to the Health and Safety Manager either serious risks or your concerns over safety issues.

To work collaboratively with volunteers to ensure that their contribution enhances quality of service provision and support across the organisation.

To work at any other Norwood location, as and when required.

To undertake any other duties which are consistent with the post.

Experience

Essential

Working with adults who have a learning disability in a health or social care setting. .

Competent swimmer.

Desirable

Utilising safe & effective manual handling practices.

Delivering hydrotherapy.

 

Qualifications

Essential

Grade C or above at GSCE level in English and Maths or equivalent.

Desirable

First Aid Certificate.

RLSS current qualification as National Pool Lifeguard, or Bronze Medallion or National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (formerly Rescue Test for Teachers and Coaches of Swimming). Rescue Test for Supervisors of Swimming with Disabilities.

NRASTC, National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches .

PWTAG, National Pool Plant Operators Certificate .

 

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Excellent interpersonal, social and facilitation skills for communication. .

Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.

Desirable

Knowledge of Health & Safety particularly in respect of swimming pools.

 

Personal

Desirable

Physically fit and confident in the water. .

Positive attitude towards disability and the benefits of hydrotherapy. .

Able to work co-operatively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team. .
