Job Description

1. Lead the management, development and continuous improvement of Employee Relations activities in order to ensure that systems and best practice processes are in place. Work with the Head of HR to implement ER priority projects in line with Norwood's overall strategy.

2. Ensure Norwood are operating legally in all matters of employee relations by keeping abreast of legislation and adapting our approach when necessary.

3. To support and advise line managers in all matters of employee relations especially in relation to performance management, restructures and consultations, absence, disciplinary and grievance matters. Work collaboratively and effectively with all managers and staff to ensure best practice.

4. To proactively seek and analyse information in respect of staff turnover, sickness absence, exit interviews etc. and work closely with relevant managers in addressing any matters of concern or areas of improvement.

5. To work closely with the ER team and the Head of HR on drafting policies, procedures and guidelines and keeping them up to date in line with changing legislation. Continuously review contracts and terms and conditions to ensure Norwood is legally compliant and meets standards of best practice.

6. In liaison with the Learning & Development team, devise and deliver appropriate training/coaching/workshops on all ER matters to line managers and other relevant staff as and when required.

7. To meet regularly with the Head of HR, bringing all matters of concern to her attention and to seek appropriate advice and guidance as and when required and to advise the Head of HR immediately when employee relations matters are causing concern and seek advice in respect of disciplinary or grievance procedures in order to apply consistency. Assist the Head of HR with continuing the effective relationship with Unite the Union.

8. To work collaboratively and effectively as the manager and member of the ER team, ensuring trust and confidence in the Employee Relations function at all times and providing support for the ER Advisers and ER Officer.

9. In collaboration with the Head of HR, develop agreed performance targets for all direct reports ensuring effective systems are in place for monitoring and reporting on them, ensuring that these are met or exceeded and are reviewed at regular intervals.

o Proven employee relations experience .

o A sound knowledge of current and developments in employment law and experience of interpreting and implementing changes in employment legislation.

o Experience of providing a professional ER service to line managers, directors/senior managers and employees.

o Experience of restructures, redundancies and re-deployment.


o Experience of working with Trade Unions.

o Experience of Employment Tribunals.




o Educated to degree or equivalent standard.

o Working towards or having achieved CIPD.

o Employment Law qualification.
