Job Description

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

1. To oversee all activities within the home and make sure that the quality of service and the support provided meets and exceeds all the requirements of the Care Quality Commission's Fundamental Standards.

2. To ensure that each person's care and support is assessed and regularly reviewed to meet their needs, working closely with the relevant funding authorities in accordance with the Care Act 2014..

3. To provide information and advice in an appropriate way to each person living in the home, their families and other carers to enable active decision making and the effective management of risk.

4. To ensure that the care and support provided is person-centred; adopting the principles of Active Support to enable Life Long Learning for every person living within the home.

5. To ensure that support plans, risk assessments and strategies are developed to enable people to experience a high quality of life, promoting and supporting active citizenship within the local and wider community.

6. To adopt sound business practices including monitoring business performance, working within the designated budget and implementing clear policies and practices in line with workplace legislation and Norwood guidelines.

7. To have responsibility for the recruitment, training, supervision and appraisal of a team of staff working within the home ensuring that they are fit to support the delivery of the service.

8. To work effectively with Norwood's support service departments to ensure that the premises are maintained and operated to a high standard providing a homely, comfortable environment that promotes the well-being, dignity and choice of the people living there.

9. To work to continuous person development by maintaining qualifications, attending regular update meetings and undertaking all training relevant to the role and organisational and legislative requirements.

10. To keep and maintain adequate records and undertake effective reporting as required by the Health and Social Care Act (2008) (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, Local Authority Contracts, Norwood policies and any other applicable legislation.

11. To follow reporting procedures and report to line management and appropriate agencies in a timely manner, and in accordance with Regulation 20, The Duty of Candour, Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

General

1. To maintain standard of dress that is appropriate to role and in accordance with the organisation's dress policy.

2. To maintain confidentiality at all times and to ensure respect for, proper observance of and adherence to Norwood's confidentiality policy for all staff.

3. To attend regular supervision sessions with line manager, regular team meetings and undertake relevant training as and when required.

4. To take all reasonable care of the health and safety of her/himself and of other persons who may be affected by her/his acts or omissions. As regards to any duty or requirement imposed upon the organisation by or under any of the relevant statutory provisions, to co-operate with the organisation as far as it necessary to enable that duty or requirement to be performed or complied with.

5. To report to the Health and Safety Manager either serious risks or your concerns over safety issues.

6. To work collaboratively with volunteers to ensure that their contribution enhances quality of service provision and support across the organisation.

7. To work at any other Norwood location, as and when required.

8. To undertake any other duties which are consistent with the post.

5 years within a residential care setting, 2 of which must have been at a supervisory level.

Care and Support of Adults with Learning Disabilities.

Person centred planning, care and support planning and risk assessment.

Person Centred Approaches to care and support delivery.

Reviewing and monitoring service delivery.

Desirable

Delivery of culturally specific services.

Change management.

Managing staff performance.

Coaching and Mentoring.

Life Long Learning services for adults with Learning Disabilities.

 

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Current legislation including Health and Social Care Act (2008) (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, The Care Act 2014, and Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

Understanding of the principles of Valuing People and Valuing People Now.

High level of literacy and numeracy.

Good IT systems including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Strong leadership and team working.

Ability to anticipate and identify potential gaps in service and take appropriate action.

Effective communication.

People Management.

Budget setting and budget management.

Delegation.

Effective liaison with key professional .

Ability to work under pressure.

Desirable

Active Support .

Intermediate competence in IT.
